St Aloysius Catholic College

Interpretation Signage

St Aloysius Catholic College approached Flying Colours Group with a vision: to create a meaningful, permanent space on campus where students, staff, and families could engage with and learn about Tasmanian Aboriginal culture. The signage needed to be educational, visually impactful, and seamlessly integrated into the school’s landscaped environment.

Our Solution

We designed and fabricated a series of corten steel plinths featuring Aboriginal stories, symbols, and language. Each panel was carefully considered to ensure cultural respect and storytelling integrity. The natural rusted finish of the corten steel complemented the existing landscape, while the bold, laser-cut designs stood out as powerful visual markers.

The installation forms a walkthrough-style experience—encouraging curiosity, sparking conversation, and building awareness of Tasmania’s rich First Nations heritage.

Impact

This signage project has transformed a previously under-utilised outdoor area into a learning and reflection zone that invites students and their families to explore Aboriginal history and stories every day. It’s become a much-loved feature of the campus—used during learning activities, assemblies, and community events.

What the Client Said

“The new signage has become a focal point for students and staff. It not only adds to the beauty of our campus but gives us a lasting, respectful way to share important cultural knowledge.”

Why It Matters

At Flying Colours Group, we believe signage should do more than just direct—it should connect. This project showcases how thoughtful design can honour culture, support education, and inspire future generations.
