The Unconformity – Semaphore Book
Digital Printing
Semaphore is a digitally printed artist book created for The Unconformity Festival in Lutruwita/Tasmania. It formed a key part of a large-scale artwork staged across Mt Owen.
The book acted as both a keepsake and a guide. Visitors used it to follow the live semaphore performance and better understand the work as it unfolded in the landscape.

Flying Colours Group worked closely with the creative team from early concept stages. Together, we shaped a print outcome that supported the artist’s vision. The design focused on texture and material rather than colour ink. Instead of printing in multiple colours, the book uses different paper stocks to create variation.
The final book includes 124 pages plus cover. We digitally printed the content in black throughout. The pages feature a mix of coloured uncoated stocks, including Lessebo Flame, Lessebo Sunflower, Lessebo Sahara and Grange Tint Sand. The finished size is 210 x 135mm. A dust jacket with extended flaps completes the piece and gives it a strong physical presence.

Our team managed creasing, trimming, collating and perfect binding in-house. We supplied a hard copy proof before final production to confirm legibility and paper interaction.
The result is a refined artist publication that shows how digital print and careful paper selection can create impact through simplicity.
